Girls Night Out Ideas for Mom Friends

Getting together with your friends is so much fun but so, so rare, amirite? And while I love just sitting on the couch talking, it is also fun when moms are able to let loose and get out of the house for a while.

If you are interested in some girls night out ideas for mom friends, I’ve got you covered! This list includes all different budgets, styles, and time frames. It is great for new moms who only have a few hours between naps or feedings, as well as moms with older children who can spare a whole afternoon or evening out.

Some of these ideas might also be great for playdates, but I’m really focusing on Mommy Time, and less so on Mommy-And-Baby Time. So lets talk about these girls night out ideas!

Participate in a Community Cleanup

For your environmentally conscious girlies, get the girls together and attend a clean up! Several years ago, my husband and I lived near a river in another state. They would have a yearly River Clean Up, and it was a huge event. Around 150 people would gather and then break off into groups and clean sections of the river. They found old tires, toys, fast food containers, and more.

When we participated, there was a friend group of 4 or 5 women who would attend every year and help with the clean up. They would chat the entire time while doing something good for their community. I think this is a great way to do something while also hanging out!

Go Camping

For the nature girlies, you can always go camping. This would most likely be an overnight adventure, so this is something that would need to be planned in advance to make sure the children are taken care of. Bonus: This gives Dad a chance to bond one on one with your kiddos.

Have a Spa Night

Go get massages or facials, or even stay in and make your own masks! Pamper yourselves while having an uninterrupted conversation.

Bake or Cook Together

This can always be done at home, but take a cooking class together! I know these are sometimes advertised as a couple’s activity but why not make it a girl’s night?

Have a Bonfire or Fire Pit in the Backyard

Roast s’mores and chat about your lives!

Take a Painting Class

I have always wanted to do one of those paint and sip type situations. It seems like a fun way to spend the evening!

Go on an App Crawl

I recently heard about a girl who, instead of doing a bar crawl, went on a French fry crawl. She and her friends sampled French fries at several different restaurants over the course of one night. I think this is such a fun idea! Pick several restaurants (bonus points if they’re all within walking distance of each other!) and share an appetizer at each location!

Host a Craft Night

Get creative with your girlfriends at home! Whether it’s making candles or building a birdhouse, let your creative juices flow.

Help With a Home DIY

Your girlfriend needs to paint her dining room? Put on some clothes you can get dirty in and paint together!

Get a Manicure or Pedicure

When I was in college, I loved getting a pedicure with my girlfriends. It’s an easy way to bond while getting pampered.

Garden Together

A friend of mine is sharing a house with roommates and with no yard. She gets to use her green thumb in my backyard while we chat about life. Plus, I don’t have to make arrangements with my husband or a babysitter for this Mom’s Night Out! You could even trade off whose house you go to each time you garden, that way every mom gets an evening away from her own home.

Try a New Workout Class Together

Who knows? Maybe you’ll find a new passion in Zumba, yoga, or HIIT.

Pottery Painting

This activity is a bit slept on in my opinion. I painted a gorgeous mug that I use weekly and got two hours of uninterrupted conversation with my girlfriend. Win-win!

Attend a Trivia Night

What a fun way to learn and laugh with each other! Check your local area for upcoming trivia nights and invite your girlfriends.

Attend a Local Event

Especially in warmer months, most cities and towns have fun events like festivals, movies on the lawn, holiday parades, and more! Check your local tourism website to find an event to go to with your girlfriends.

Check Out a Band

In a similar vein, invite your mom friends to see a local band play. Maybe they’ll be good, maybe they’ll be terrible, but either way, you’re sure to make some funny memories.

Go Bowling

I always forget how fun bowling is until I do it again! It’s a great way to spend mom’s night out while feeling like a kid again.

Catch a Movie

My girlfriend and I went to see Wicked (it was AMAZING btw) and it had been so long since I had been to a movie theatre. I ate an indecent amount of popcorn and we had such a blast.

Catch a Game

What’s more fun than sitting in the sunshine, eating hotdogs, and watching a baseball game? Whether it’s a professional, minor league, or even high school sports team, you and your mom friends will have so much fun cheering the players on.

Start a Book Club

Do you and your girlfriends like to read? Start a book club and rotate hosting duties so that every mom gets a break. It can be as complex or as informal as you’d like it to be! Stay tuned for my post on books for busy moms.

Go Hiking

I love hiking, and it’s a great way to get some exercise. Plus, hiking makes it easy to let your mind wander and speak freely. Something about the fresh air allows you to relax and bond with your friends. This can also be an activity done with children, because we all know how hard it is to get time away from the littles!
