Easter Egg Fine Motor Activity for Preschoolers

Easter is almost here! If you are looking for a fun and easy Easter egg activity, I’ve got one that also helps your kiddo work those fine motor skills as well!

I have a three year old and I have been working on lesson plans to prepare him for preschool. I like having themes for a week or two and to have all of our activities surround that theme. As we get closer to the Easter holiday, I was hoping to find a tracing activity to incorporate, but I was coming up short. My criteria was simple: I needed it to help my son work on holding a pencil correctly and I did NOT want to spend a lot of time preparing for this activity.

I can usually find tons of great resources online, but I was coming up short for what I had in mind, so I decided to create it myself!

We are currently working on hand-eye coordination, and I wanted to use a tracing pattern to help him practice. I had also been looking for a way to practice pencil holding with my son and wanted a way to incorporate an Easter spin, so this works perfectly for those goals!

Today I am sharing a line tracing activity to help your kiddo practice those fine motor skills. This Easter egg fine motor activity is great for learning colors and hand-eye coordination as well. Let’s get started!

Supplies

You will need:

  • My totally free Easter Egg tracing printable! Check out the link below
  • Colored pencils and/or in Easter-y colors
  • If using paint, you will also need cotton swabs

Set Up

  1. Print off a copy of the printable and have your kiddo trace the lines with their finger.
  2. Have them practice their lines with a different color for each line.

Tips

  • I like to have my son trace a line with his finger and then trace it with a pencil before moving on to the next line.
  • Use a Q-tip to paint colors across the line pattern. I found that this was actually the simplest way to follow the lines because the swab just slides across the page.
  • Ask your toddler to choose what color they want to use for each line. Ask them to tell you the color before using it.
  • Ask them to count the number of lines on their Easter egg.

Make it More Challenging

  • I originally wanted this to be a marker activity, but found that it was more difficult for him to move the marker across the page. It takes extra concentration to hold the marker correctly.
  • Ask them to use their non-dominant hand to trace the lines

This Easter egg fine motor activity is great for helping your little one learn to grip their pencils and work on controlling their hand movements. And it is great for moms in a hurry because you literally just have to print it off!
