20 Outdoor Date Ideas for Busy Parents
When the weather gets warm, I can’t wait to plan some outdoor dates with my husband! Something about being in the fresh air, sans kiddo that really makes for some great romance.
20 Outdoor Date Ideas
Today I’m sharing 20 of my favorite outdoor date ideas for busy parents. Be sure to save this post so you can find it later!
Fire Pit With Cocktails
Enjoy an evening under the stars with your sweetie. Make it extra cozy with a fire pit and some fancy (or not so fancy) cocktails to unwind!
Golfing
My husband and I recently visited a Top Golf for the first time, and we had a blast! This is not a sponsored post, we truly just had a good time. We ate, we flirted, we made terrible shots the entire time and really enjoyed ourselves! You can take to a true golf course or ease into it like we did, but either way you are sure to have a blast!
Kayaking
Explore a local lake or river with some kayaking fun! This is a great arm workout and you are sure to see some cool wildlife during your outdoor date!
Cornhole Tournament
If you and your partner like to compete, have a friendly backyard competition with some cornhole boards!
We had cornhole boards at our wedding and they were a huge hit! These are the ones we have, and they’ve held up really well over the past six years (and three moves!)
Hiking
My husband and I LOVE hiking. We used to go together in college when we were still just friends and it’s some of my fondest pre-dating memories.
Granted, our version of hiking is more like walking in sneakers in a state park as opposed to strapping on boots and scaling a cliff, but we love it!
Patio Dinner
Make dinner together and enjoy it alfresco. You’ll have fun making something together, and there are few things better than breaking bread with your love.
Outdoor Pickleball or Tennis
Tennis is so incredibly fun and pickleball is taking young professionals by storm! Make it a double outdoor date and invite friends to join in.
Hot Tub Under the Stars
No kids and a hot tub is a pretty romantic outdoor date if I do say so myself. Give yourselves time to unwind and relax in the hot tub together. I find that this sort of setting allows you to relax and speak freely, which is something busy parents so rarely get to do.
Dog Walking
When you’re pressed for time for your outdoor date, take your doggies on a long walk, or even to the dog park! It gets you outside, and a chance to chat while your dog gets exercise.
Picnic Under the Shade of a Tree
Pack a basket and take your Beau somewhere shady. This can be a park, a popular shopping area with outdoor seating, or even in your own backyard.
Go to a Baseball Game
There are few things better than sitting in the sunshine and eating a pretzel. Take your partner to a local game, whether it be pro, mini leagues, college, or even high school. Get a lemonade and some hot dogs and enjoy your outdoor date!
Boating or Tubing
While this one can be expensive if you’re paying for the boat, it’s still a fantastic outdoor date idea. Spend the day on the water and reconnect with your spouse.
Similarly, my friends love to tie a bunch of inner tubes together and float down the river for a couple of hours. They even tie a cooler to their floats!
Check Out a Festival
Whether it’s a full-blown music festival, or a local event with tons of food trucks, spend time together perusing everything the festival has to offer.
S’mores Date
Make a campfire and get your fingers sticky with a s’mores date! You can use roasting sticks or even just melt them in the microwave.
Camp Out
Camping isn’t for everyone, but if it IS for you, plan a camping getaway for you and hubs! You can connect without the distraction of technology and enjoy each other’s company.
Horseback Riding
How romantic is this outdoor date idea?! Find a local guide and enjoy some time outdoors together.
We got married at a ski resort that offered horseback riding in the off season. If there are any resort or destination-type places within a two hour drive, make a weekend of it and do all the outdoor things they have to offer, including horseback riding!
Wine Tasting Tour
For my thirtieth birthday, we did a wine tour. It was great to be outdoors, view the gorgeous scenery, and try tasty wines. Many offer guided tours or wine flights to try multiple wines. I felt super fancy and had a lot of fun with my husband.
Go Cart Racing
At the other end of the fanciness spectrum, this outdoor date was less refined but totally fun! For my 34th birthday, my husband took me to one of those gaming places that has all the things.
You know the ones with laser tag, arcade games, roller skating and go cart racing!
We had SO much fun and even though he won by a pretty far margin, I laughed so much while racing my hubby around the track.
U-Picks
Check your local area for a strawberry farm, apple orchard, or flower farm. Many offer opportunities to come and pick your own. How cute is that?! This outdoor date idea is great because you get to bring home what you picked and enjoy it later on as well!
Outdoor Concert
These are great during the summer! Get a babysitter and rock out under the stars. From local artists to top performers, you are sure to find something in your genre of choice. For extra romance, try to find a band you both liked in college.
Putt-Putt
My in-laws live in a tourist town with a ton of putt-putt options, and it is one of my favorite summer date ideas! My husband and I get to flirt, get a little competitive, and laugh a lot. All great for an outdoor date!

All wonderful ideas! My partner and I will sometimes just sit and play an Xbox game together as a ‘date night’ cheap date!! Ha
